The President of the Liberia International Christian College, Dr. Nuwoe James Kiamu, has officially introduced Dr. Abimelech Paye Gbatu as the institution’s new Vice President for Administration (VPA). According to Dr. Kiamu, the appointment of Dr. Gbatu will greatly strengthen the college’s administrative operations as the institution continues to grow as one of Liberia’s fastest-growing higher learning institutions outside Monrovia. Dr. Gbatu is a renowned Liberian academic, researcher, and higher education administrator with expertise in economics, energy policy, and tertiary education. Prior to his new role at LICC, he served as President of Bomi Community College after being appointed in 2022 during the administration of former Liberian President George Weah. Dr. Gbatu obtained advanced academic degrees in China, including a PhD from the China University of Petroleum. During his induction in 2022, Chinese Ambassador Ren Yisheng described him as a “China-trained scholar.” He has also authored and published several academic papers focusing on Liberia’s economy, exchange rate volatility, oil price shocks, energy economics, and environmental policy, among other areas.
