Nursing

Program Overview

The LICC Nursing Program has a robust Curriculum designed to provide excellent quality academic study and guided learning related to healthcare contexts. Informed by Christian values, the program emphases:

  • Compassionate Nursing Care,
  • Patient-Centered Care,
  • Responsibilities, and
  • Evidence-Based Ethical Nursing Practice

Vision Statement

Producing godly, compassionate and caring nurses for every patient without discrimination.

Mission Statement

Providing excellent, Christ-like leadership in nursing education and practice.

Philosophy

Instruction focuses on foundational and professional competencies that include knowledge, attitudes/values, and skills appropriate to healthcare-related learning environments. The competencies are gained through theory 100% and clinical practice 100%.

Licensure

Graduates of the program are eligible for professional nursing practice upon successful completion of the National State Board Examination (NSBE). Licensure is granted by the Liberia Board of Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) and must be renewed every two years.

Admission Requirements

To enroll in the nursing program, students must:

  • Pass the LICC English, Mathematics, and Cognitive Readiness Assessment entrance examinations, and
  • Present their WASSCE certificates with passes in Biology, Chemistry, English, and Mathematics (LBNM requirement) and any one subject (NCHE requirement).

Students enroll in the program once every academic year.

Indexing

Students are indexed within two months of admission. Indexing of students is the periodic activity of receiving new records of new student nurses and midwives who have applied into the various accredited Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions. It is a separate process from the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Learning Environment

nursing lab 02

The LICC Nursing Program includes a well-equipped demonstration and simulation laboratory. In this lab, students practice skills learned in the classroom and prepare for real clinical experiences in hospitals, health centers, clinics, and other healthcare settings.

During clinical rotations, students apply what they have learned and continue to develop their knowledge and skills. These experiences help students build the competencies needed for professional practice after graduation and licensure, and prepare them to provide safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care.

Florence Nightingale, the mother of Modern Nursing said “Standing still in nursing, means going back”. It is based on this that both faculty and students are highly encouraged to do more research during the course of study at every level at LICC Nursing Program.

Accreditation

The Liberian International Christian College (LICC) Nursing Program was accredited in August of 2024 by the Liberian Board for Nursing and Midwifery (LBNM) to operate at BSc. Level.
